MBABANE – The Imbali Foundation, whose patron is Princess Sikhanyiso, has been awarded the licence to host Miss Tourism Swaziland 2013/14.
The licence to hold this prestigious international event was given to the foundation by Datuk Danny Ooi the Director of Miss Tourism International, who was impressed by Imbali Foundation’s contribution towards improving the lives of girl children.
According to Bernard Heck of Imbali Foundation, the director of Miss Tourism International had been following the projects done by the foundation hence when he met the princess in Malaysia he offered her the licence.
The pageant will start on October 18, 2013 with the registration of 20 finalists and end with the finale on October 27.
The winner will then spend about a month in Malaysia participating in the Miss Tourism World. The Miss Tourism International pageant is held annually with 60 participants from around the world.  This year it will be held in December in Malaysia.
“The licence was handed over to the princess in recognition of the work that she is doing with the Imbali Foundation. The director has seen articles on the foundation’s work and was impressed with the success of the work including the Toiletry Hamper collection of which the Times was a major partner,” said Bernard .
During the presentation of the licence the Director also presented his biography to the Princess. The aim of the pageant is to select, discover and groom not only a worthy tourism ambassador for Swaziland but also a role model for local girls to emulate.
The Miss Tourism Swaziland will also be an opportunity to raise funds for Imbali Foundation Projects. Bernard Heck explained that since the time is very limited to see this pageant through they will be working at a fast pace.
The contestants to partake in the contest will be required to undertake a few activities to determine if they are fit for the crown. These will include a fitness test, a beauty course to teach them basics on upkeep plus a quiz on their knowledge of Swazi history. The contestants will also get the opportunity of meeting with a few senior royals, for education about Swazi culture and also partake in a traditional song and dance competition.
“The events of the different days will be filmed to air on Swazi TV as a show including the final gala evening. In all there will be 10 episodes, the initial selection, the eight elimination days and the final gala evening,” said Bernard.
